"I'm just here to clean breathing tube as well as show you how to care for it once you're at home. I’ll just demo all this for today and show you hows we take care of the tube. If you have any questions along the way please let me know, thats what I'm here for"

"Alright, so before we get started I'm just gonna do a quick little assessment"

WASH HANDS WITH SOAP & WATER
"Okay, so first thing you want to ALWAYS do is wash your hands with soap & water as we want to try to keep everything as clean as possible"
GATHER EQUIPMENT
"From there, you're gonna start gathering your equipment"
1) Tray
2) Clean Cup - Where you're going to be drawing up your salt water
3) Saline - At home, you're going to be making your own salt water and the pamphlet I give you afterwards is going to have that recipe on there
4) Syringe - To draw up your salt water
5) Q-tips
6) Tissues
SET UP
"So now that we have all of this, can take our salt water & pour it in the cup & then pour some in one of the compartments in the tray & this is going to be our dirty compartment simply because we're going to take the tube out and let it soak to get some of the secretions that can be on the tube off easier"
Remove LT
”Alright so now we’re just going to remove the laryngectomy tube and I’ll show you how to do that”

, we’re just going to get ready to remove your tube so we can clean it. It might feel a little bit uncomfortable, if you need to cough just go ahead and do that, I’ll have some tissues here ready. You’re going to feel me undo the ties here. So you’re going to undo the ties and it’s just a Velcro system and once those are undone we can remove the tube. Alright

you’re going to feel me remove your tube. Like I said if you need to cough please go ahead and do that. So you’re just going to grab the tube and pull out and downward to follow the shape of the tube because it’s curved. Try to be gentle as the area around the neck can be sensitive”
PULL THE LT OUT
PLACE LT TO SOAK
”Okay so we’re just going to put the tube in the tray so it can soak and it can loosen up some of the things that have been caked onto the tube & makes this easier to clean as well”
