Job Analysis
Collecting information about a job.
Job analysis tells the company:
What skills and behaviours are needed
What environment the work happens in
What responsibilities it has
What tasks the job includes
From job analysis, you create:
Job Description (what the job is)
Job Specification (what kind of person is suitable)
Performance Management
Teaches how companies make sure employees work well
A continuous process involving: Communicating, Coaching, Motivating, Training, Feedback, Evaluating, Reviewing performance
Effective PMS must: Define what to measure, Measure accurately, Give proper feedback
Human Resources Planning
Deciding how many and what type of employees as business needs
Hard to attract good employees at early stage → sometimes get help from friends/family.
When business grows → plan manpower properly.
New businesses usually have limited budget, so they hire only essential staff.
When sales increase → business can plan workforce properly by calculating man-hours and workload.
Training and Development
Improving employees.
Improve current job performance
Prepare employees for new skills (future opportunities)
Recruitment and Selection
Finding and choosing the right employee. Recruitment = attracting candidates, Selection = choosing the best one
Interviews must be done by someone experienced.
Must offer good salary, clear requirements, and advertise properly.
Companies recruit for new start-up, expansion, or replacement.
Only shortlisted candidates are interviewed.
Employment Laws
Legal rules that employers must follow. If the employer doesn’t follow the law → they can be fined or charged.
The law protects: Rest days, Public holidays, Annual leave, Sick leave, Working hours, Maternity leave, Foreign worker rules, Termination rules, Disciplinary actions
Occupational Safety and Health
safety at the workplace, based on OSHA 1994 (Malaysia). OSH protects both company and employees.
Employers must: Ensure employees work safely, Prevent accidents, Reduce medical costs, Avoid legal trouble
