embedded systems
computers built into other devices, like dishwashers, microwaves and TVs
often used as control systems - they monitor and control machinery in order to achieve a desired result
as they are dedicated to a single task, they are usually easier to design, cheaper to produce and more efficient at doing their task
the cache
the cache is a very fast memory in the cpu, its slower than the registers but faster than RAM
stores regularly used data so that the CPU can access it quickly the next time its needed. CPU checks cache first, if its not there then it checks RAM.
have low capacity and are expensive compared to RAM. there are different levels of cache, L1 is the fastest but lowest capacity.
-
fetch execute cycle
fetch - copy memory address from program counter to MAR. copy that from MAR to MDR. increment the program counter to point to the address of the next instruction ready for the next cycle
-
execute- the instruction is performed. this could be loading data from memory, write data to memory or do a calculation
RAM
high speed, volatile memory
is used as the main memory in a computer, it can be read and written to. RAM is volatile
dual core vs single core
deal core has two cores on a single chip, allowing it to handle multiple tasks at once, making it faster and more efficient than a single core processor, which can only handle one task at a time. while a single core can preform a single task as fast as a dual core can on that specific task, dual core processor excels at multitasking, providing a smoother experience for users running multiple applications simultaneously

logic gates
-
-
NOT gate - inverts the input, if the input is 1, the output is 0, and vice versa

data protection
-
6 principles ; must only be used in afar way, data must be for a purpose, should be relevant and not excessive, accurate and up to date, not be kept longer, safe and secure
give data subjects the right to see, amend and delete data unless incriminating
