Physical geography in Bulgaria
water
Water has a very big social impact as the scarcity of water in certain regions in Bulgaria during dry season can lead to a very negative opinion of the locals
Water has a very big impact on the Bulgarian economy as our access to the Black Sea opens trade routes that are crucial for further economic development
The political situation of Bulgaria is also impacted by water. Because there are always people who believe we have a problem with water, constant decisions are made for the saving/protecting of water
I believe the overall impact of water in Bulgaria is positive as even thought we have a lot of more improving to do water is a vital resource that we need.
climate
Climate has a very big impact on the social status of Bulgaria. The climate in Bulgaria can be very diverse. This has a very big impact on local health as many hazards like floods and droughts have many health risks.
The economical situation of Bulgaria is heavily impacted by the climate, as many of our agriculture is not enclosed. What I mean by that is that is that many Bulgarian farmers don't have greenhouses to protect their crops from severe weather changes/
Climate influences the Bulgarian situation by creating pressure on the Bulgarian government. Also by having droughts and floods the local communities in Bulgaria are going to start to have a more negative opinion about the government if not many actions are taken.
Overall I think that the climate in Bulgaria is affecting the country more positively as a big part of political and social status of Bulgaria is dependent on our agriculture. And of course the economic situation in Bulgaria is also somewhat dependent on the agriculture.
Biodiversity
Biodiversity has a very big impact on the local economies of Bulgaria. There are many tourist that visit sacred sites in Bulgaria to see the beauty of our biodiversity. This brings a lot of income for local businesses, helping them grow the local economy
Biodiversity has a very big social impact, because many of the local population in the rural and sacred lands depend on the biodiversity. For example many people in the Rila mountains are beekeepers as well as fishers etc.
The political situation of Bulgaria is heavily impacted by the biodiversity. The Nature 2000 organization plays a big role in keeping the sacred lands in Bulgaria protected and even had a kay role in delaying the Bulgarian join in the European union. What I mean by that is that there are certain rules the Nature 2000 organization has that Bulgaria started to try and complete before joining the European Union. It took us a whole 4 years to complete all requirements for the Nature 2000 organization in 2007.
Overall the biodiversity of Bulgaria has a very positive impact on the country. Many positives arise including : tourism and local economical growth.
soil
Soil influences Bulgaria socially by introducing new advantages and disadvantages to the local communities. As we talked in class we understood that different soils have different functions. For example some soils are more applicable to some certain crops while others aren't. This has a very big impact on the social situation in Bulgaria as many farmers that rely on agriculture need good soil for annual crop growth.
Soil has a very big economic influence on Bulgaria as a big chunk of the agriculture is dependent on soil. For example the soil in the Danube plains the Chernozem soil is very mature for all kinds of agriculture. This has a very big impact on what crops you can grow there. Because Bulgarian local economies depend on agriculture the economic situation in the region can halt if there is not very mature soil
The political situation in Bulgaria is also impacted by the soil in various ways. Because the Bulgarian economy is tied with the agriculture which depends on the soil the political situation is tied with the economic situation. If for some reason there isn't enough economic growth in certain regions it can lead to political disagreements.
In conclusion I believe soil has an overall positive impact on Bulgaria, as the local rural economies are mostly heavily dependent on agriculture, which in exchange is tied to the soil being fertile.
minerals
I believe minerals have a big social impact on the Bulgarian sociality. In certain areas there are a lot of copper, gold, lead and zinc deposits and because of that there are a lot of job opportunities that arise in these regions
The economic situation of Bulgaria is also influenced by the extraction of minerals. Because mining is a key industry the regions that have a very high employment rate as well as infrastructure are often involved in mining. Also there are many foreign inverstors that are pretty keen on investing in mineral extraction.
The political situation of Bulgaria is heavily dependent on extraction of ores. For example Bulgaria is well known for its energy policy. Coal generates a total of around 45% of the energy annually in Bulgaria. This gives a very bad political opinion, because the European Union wants us to limit our greenhouse gas emissions.
In conclusion I believe that minerals have a more positive impact on Bulgaria. I think that, because we haven't optimized our energy policy, we will need time to adapt to a new energy policy
