Within the first shot we see of Vidal, the mise en scene denotes a close up shot of vidal's father's watch, tightly framed connoting it's significance throughout the film, acting as a symbol of masculinity as his father died in battle, being seen as honourable. The camera then tilt up as his face fills the frame, we are immediately exposed to Vidal's precise nature though the use of diegetic dialogue as he says impatiently, "15 minutes late".
