Blackness has always been something that has been demonized and look down upon throughout history. With this in mind there has also been a concerted effort to subjugate those associated to blackness. We see this in history through many anti-black policies such as redlining, black codes, Jim crow, eminent domain, Gi bill discrimination, grandfather clause, voter id laws, crack vs cocaine disparity, urban renewal and the list goes on. Many people have shaped their political identity based of these ideas and polices both white and black. For example, Blacks have associated by and large with the democratic party in part due to the perceived racial ignorance of the right. On the other side of the coin, we've seen movements such as the lily-white movement and Nixon southern strategy which were both political movements with the express intent to oppose/undermine blackness.
