disease prevelance- proportion of people infeceted with a disease wthin a given population at a point in time

patterns of incedence
sporadic- seen only occasionally, usually without geographic concentration (does not matter where)
endemic- constantly present but often at a low level, like malaria in brazil, new cases will show up constantly throughout the year
epidemic- disease with larger than expected number of cases within a short time in a concentrated geographic region

continuous common source spread- longer incubation period, like water contaminated by sewage
intermittent common source spread- infections occur for a period, stop, and then start again, like a well that is only dangerous after a large rain
