Visual anchor charts, checklists, images, etc. Students are able to understand and learn new standards/ideas when they are tied to a visual or hands on object.
Cognitive Development/Piaget: During the pre-operational stage (ages 2 - 7) students rely on concrete representations and visuals to make sense of the world around them.
Sociocultural/Vygotsky: Visuals can act as tools that help support learning concepts within a students Zone of Proximal Development. Scaffolding helps provide temporary support to help a student complete a task/assignment within their ZPD.
Information Processing: Visuals can help reduce cognitive load which then helps with encoding and retrieval.
