In 55 B.C., Julius Caesar landed in Britain, but he soon departed. The Romans returned in 43 A.D. and occupied the whole of England and Wales for nearly 400 years.The Romans introduced their civilization, their language, and Christianity.
They built walled towns (or fortified towns) such as London, Bath, and York.
Some place names today are a reminder of the Roman occupation.
