Public buildings in Pompeii
Most public buildings had their own pipes bringing in fresh water
Roads had raised pavements for people to walk on.
Pompeii did not have sewers.
Aquaducts brought clean water to Pompeii
There were 5 public baths in Pompeii.
Houses in Roman times
Only large houses had a kitchen
Over 30 bakeries have been found in Pompeii
Roman remains of houses with cooking pots and food have been found.
Most ordinary people would have a small fire for cooking and cleaning
The volcanic eruption
Some people were able to escape

People frozen in last position they were in when ash fell
They filled the place where the body was with plaster

People had gathered on the beaches of Herculaneum hoping to be rescued
