Going Public
After 3 years of private da'wah, Allah SWT commanded the Prophet SAW to go public with his message
He went to the top of the hill Safa and started to preach
Persecution Begins
Over the next years the Quraysh tried several tactics to stop Islam from spreading
1. Propaganda & Smear Campaign
People from all over Arabia were coming so they had to make up something for why Muhammad SAW was preaching:
Call him a fortune teller/ sorcerer
mental health issues
really good poet
They choose to call him a sorcerer
2. Political pressure on Banu Hashim
Qurashi told Abu Talib to talk to him
-Abu Talib went to talk to him and the Prophet started to cry so Abu Talib told him to carry out his plan
3. Pretend Negotiations
Utbah ibn Rabi'ah went to the prophet and presented him with options in order to stop spreading Islam:
we'll give you money so you can be the richest
we'll make you the chief
We'll marry you to the most beautiful woman
Maybe you are possessed, we'll get you the best doctor
The Prophet response, talking about A 'ad & Thamud, it spooked Utbah and Utbah told him to stop
Preferential Treatment
Quraysh said that if the Prophet SAW were to get rid of the low class people they would reconsider his message
Allah SWT responded by saying that he should not shun the people that stayed by him for higher class people

A'mmar ibn Yasir & family
Family was sponsored by the tribe of Abu Jahal
When the sands would get hot, they would get stripped of their clothes and get tortured
Once while being tortured his mom said cruel things to Abu Jahal and she got speared, first martyr of Islam
Khabbab ibn Arat
His master would take burning charcoal, put it on the burning sand, put him on top of it, and he could hear his own flesh burning
his back was scarred and had holes in it
Mus'ab ibn Umayr
Was an influencer
Very well-off despite this he felt empty and Islam gave him purpose
When his family figured out he was Muslim, he was locked in his house, shackled and later got disowned
lost all of his things and was left with a small shawl wrapped around his body
Bilal ibn Abi Rabah
Master was Umaiah, would torture him in public
wait until sand was hot and would put a boulder on top of him
Umaiah would tell him to give up his faith to stop being tortured an Bilal would say no
Abu Bakr later bought his freedom
very attached to the Prophet SAW
Mockery & Cursing
The Prophet would recite Qur'an and Pagans would be little him and cuss the Quran so Allah SWT told him, "you do not have to be too loud or loud soft."
when revelations wouldn't come people would taunt him
Physical Abuse
Once while the Prophet was praying, Utbah Muait came behind him and started to strangle him, Abu Bakr came to the rescue and was beaten
Quraysh said, "we have tried to reason with you but you won't listen so we have another proposal... Move these mountains, put in some lakes, and bring back our forefathers."
The Prophet SAW said that he is not here to perform miracles
When they asked again, the Prophet made dua and Allah responded by saying:
if we fulfill their request and they reject, they will be destroyed
if you keep patience and don't fulfill their request they still have grace period
The Prophet choose to not fulfill their requests
