Bus topology : All devices are connected to a single central cable.
Ring topology : Devices are connected in a loop where data travels in one direction.
Star topology : All devices are connected to a central hub
Mesh topology : Devices are interconnected
Based on geographical scope / tangible area
LAN : Local Area Network : Encompasses a small geographical area like an office or building. Cheap and easiest to maintain.
WAN : Wide Area Network : Encompasses larger geographical areas like cities and countries.
MAN : Metropolitan Area Network : Encompasses a larger metropolitan area by connecting LAN(s).
