These metals don't degrade and could accumulate in sediments and living organisms, leading to long term toxicity and poisoning of aquatic life. This aquatic life, especially fish, once consumed by humans could pass poisoning onto humans, causing diseases and disorders
      - Food processing, textiles and paper mill industries release organic matter that consumes dissolved oxygen, leading to low oxygen "dead zones" where aquatic organisms cannot survive well. This reduces biodiversity and health of aquatic ecosystems
