Othello
Undermined by doubt and uncertainty - expresses doubt at various points. Apologies for lacking eloquence and doubts his own abilities to speak. However, these doubts seem to be unfounded. His confidence as a military leader is not matched in himself personally.
Excessively Proud - flawed by this. He has a vision of himself as a romantic heroic figure. Boasts his adventures. Proudly explains his status. Perceives Desdemonas supposed infidelity as a challenge to his manhood. She wounds his male pride. Often lamenting the loss of his manhood, not Desdemnona. He eventually curses his foolish pride and the emptiness of his military boasts.
Respected as a leader - admiration of those around him. Recognised for military prowess. Trusted by Venetian Senate. Even Iago admits Othello's talent. Many characters testify to his brilliance. Montano is pleased to have such a suitable replacement - Othello loses this admiration as the play progresses

Loving - love for Desdemona readily apparent - expresses his love publicly. Joy and contentment he finds in his wife. However, it is not enough to quell his fury. His love becomes twisted.
Gullible - Assumes the honest of people around him. This openness is exploited. Asserts that he has nothing to hide/ worry about. However, he misplaces his trust in Iago.
Jealous - Encouraged through the 'temptation scene'. Iago sparks his jealousy. As his jealousy grows, so does his thirst for violent revenge. Othello's jealousy leads to the tragedy.
