In Indigenous communities medicine is about interconnectedness rather than curing or healing
The act of staging indigenous stories allow for indigenous communities to reconnect with their history
Theatre has become a vehicle for reconnection, therefore, it too is a medicine
In their community there are 4 traditional medicines that serve their own purpose
1.tobacco - connects to the spirit world, carries prayers to the creator
sweetgrass - a reminder to be kind
sage - purifies the heart and mind
cedar - cleansing, strength and protection
Each play that Nolan observed had at least one of the following themes

The ripple effect
Not only does theatre allow one to connect with their own history, it also connects difference works together, that inspire new work (and the cycle continues)
Not only is theatre a tool for reconnecting, its a tool for interconnection
The Summit was an act of medicine
The act of working alongside other creatives and recounting stories of ancestors = connection and reconnection
This stream of tradition made space for younger artists to express themselves while being supported by a community
