Theme 1: Concepts related to gender in CSD. LO1: Critically analyze key concepts related to gender in the context of CSD and education.
- Understanding key concepts.
Gender expression: How someone shows their gender to the world. Avoid certain stereotyped phrases and let kids be themselves.
Sexual orientation: Who someone is attracted to. While kids may not be romantically involved yet, they still absorb attitudes and your tone matters.
Gender identity: How someone sees and understands themselves. This comes from inside, not appearance. Respect what kids say about themselves.
Transgender: A person whose gender identity doesn't match the sex they assigned at birth. Respect identities as it builds trust and safety.
Sex: The physical characteristics someone is born with. Don't assume every kid's experience matches what's on their birth certificate.
