VOTING BEHAVIOUR
LONG TERM
Age
Young voters (18-24) more likely to vote for Labour, Green or SNP, as they prioritise issues like education, climate change and social justice.
Older votes (50+) are more likely to vote for Conservatives as they traditionally value stability, pensions and traditional policies
Example: In the 2019 General Election, 57% of under-25s voted Labour, while 64% of over-65s voted Conservative.
Social Class
Traditionally, people voted based on their economic and social class (working class vs middle/upper class)
Working class traditionally supported Labour as the party were in support of trade unions, welfare and workers rights
Religion
Protestants have traditionally supported the Conservative or Unionist parties, especially in Northern Ireland.
Catholics have tended to support Labour or nationalist parties, like the SNP or SDLP.
Ethnicity
Minority ethnic groups (Black, Asian, etc.) are more likely to vote Labour, as Labour is seen as supportive of equality and minority rights.
