Deforestation in tropical rainforest - Coggle Diagram
Deforestation in tropical rainforest
Where?
South American, Asia and Africa
Main examples are Congo, Brazil and Indonesia
Reasons why trees are being cut down
Small-scale Agriculture
Farming on small patches of land , mainly for growing crops/food which they can use to sell at the market
commercial crops
Crops that are mainly grown for selling and gaining money
Cattle ranching
raising and breeding herds of cattle for their meat/ leather/ milk
logging
Cutting down trees
Fuelwood
Woods thats used as fuel , eg. fires
Mining
Getting coal/gold/ iron and then selling it for a profit
Slash and Burn
Slash and Burn is when they cut the trees and burn it down , they use it for a while and then discard it and go somewhere else but that patch of land that is burned then can recover.
Impacts of deforestation
Wildlife
Species like elephants, white rhino and bonobo are endangered
Animals lose their habitats and food
The environment
Ash supplies nutrients
Heavy rainfall washes nutrients + soil into rivers
Rainforest destroyed
Crops grow well for a couple more year
Cropcs no longer grow on the infertile soil
People go somwhere else to remove more rainforest = more deforestation
People
Indigenous tribes have no home, they can catch diseases and they are afraid to hunt in case they meet armed loggers
tribes face racisms, logging and conservation = loss of tribal lands and violent abuse
Tribes lost thheir land to clove, cocoa and coffee plantations
