REPRODUCTION
Acquired infertility in females
Vestibular cysts
= congenital, fluid-filled sacs that dvl from remnants of embryonic ducts in vaginal vestibule
Vulvo-vaginal tumors
= abnormal growths from tissues of vulva or vagina
Vestiulo-vaginitis
Trichomonotic vaginitis
= vaginal vestibule + vagina inflammation, in non-pregnant females > infertility
Cervix anomalies
Cervix: roles
barrier and helps + sustains fecundation process
Cervical stenosis
= affection making difficult the ascension of sperm cells to uterus
Chronic cervicitis
= chronic septic inflammation of cervix > death of sperm cells due to toxins + chemical modif of cervical mucus
Chronic uterine diseases
Uterine cysts
fluid-filled structures within uterine wall or endometrium, often due to hormonal imbalances or chronic uterine stimulation
Chronic catharral endometritis
= chronic septic inflammation of endometrium
Pyometra in bitch + queen
severe, hormone-dependent uterine infection, by accumulation of purulent material within uterus during diestrus (by progesterone-induced endometrial changes that favor bacterial growth, mostly E.coli)
Tubal origin infertility
infertility by abnormalities or dysfunction of uterine (fallopian) tubes, which impair transport of oocytes, sperm, or embryos
Pathology and therapy of puerperal period
Lesions and accidents (surgical affections)
Sacro-ilial desmorrhexis
= most common + severe accident: partial/total disinsertion of capsular ligament of sacro-iliac joint, sometimes w fracture of ischiopubic symphysis (fracture = most severe case)
Puerperal hemorrhage
Vulvo-vaginal hematomas
Vaginal hemorrhage
Uterine rupture
Uterine eversion (prolapse)
= accident by intussusceptions of 1 or both uterine horns into uterine body > through pelvic canal at exterior
Rectal prolapse
Urinary bladder prolapse
Neurohormonal disorders
Puerperal psycosis
Milk fever in cows
Eclampsia in bitch + queen
= metabolic + endocrine modifs > imbalances of nervous system
Puerperal neurosis
Placentophagy
= females eat the fetal mbs after parturition
Fetophagy
= ingestion of cubs by mother -> severe psychosis
Puerperal infections
Generalized puerperal infections
Parametritis + perimetritis
Parametritis = inflammation of periuterine tissue, broad ligaments and periuterine fat from pelvic cavity included
Perimetritis = inflammation of all uterine layers, perimetrium (serosa) included
Puerperal sepsis
= intrusion + multiplication of bacterias into blood > severe imbalance of general state
Perperal endometritis
= septic/aseptic inflammation of 1st layer of uterine wall (endometrium)
Puerperal cervicities
Vulvo-vaginal infections
Necrotic vaginitis
Gangrenous vaginitis
= inflammation of copulatory tract, at 1st copulatory segments (vulvar-vestibular-vaginal) or mostly whole copulatory tract
Metritis
Fetal membranes retention
fetal mbs normally expelled during 3rd stage of labor -> = mbs retained whenever 3rd stage of labor is prolonged
