Problems
An estimated 293 million people were infected with malaria in 2023, 94% in Sub-Saharan Africa - there were 597,000 deaths worldwide, 76% of them being children under the age of five.
Wars e.g. The Russian - Ukrainian war.
There are symptoms of high functioning anxiety and depression, some being sleep disturbances and fatigue and restlessness.
Poor water quality can be found commonly in illegal settlements where they do not have access to the proper means of sanitation and clean water, in which they cant find help either as it is found in illegal settlements.
Causes
Climate change is a big cause of a lot of problems in the world, for example, tropical storm Ana in 2022 hitting Malawi in Africa caused a spike in funding to the country due to the damage they had sustained because of the storm and inadequate/weak and vulnerable housing.
Can also be economic due to the poor housing.
Wars, such as the Russian - Ukrainian war and, even though it has ended, the war in Afghanistan.
Can be economic due to the funding they received
Areas impacted most by poor water quality include countries with economic inequalities where citizens may be living in towns or cities of low-income.
Misdiagnosing mental problems such as high functioning anxiety or depression due people believing it is normal or fearing the stigma of being diagnosed with these issues.
Illegal settlements commonly have poor water quality due to them being illegal and hence unable to receive any support at all.
Things such as social media can lead to negative mental impacts on a person.
The Goal
The Global Fund invested $75 million into SMC” (Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention), which is a malaria treatment created for children, 50.9 million children received this treatment and likely many were saved by it and many in the future are bound to also be saved by this treatment.
UN General Assembly recognised that water and sanitation as a human right, giving everyone the right to have sufficient, continuous, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water both for personal and domestic use.
Can also be legal in the sense of the goal being to allow all settlements and people the legal right to water and sanitation.
World Health Organisation are testing the water treatment technologies of places all across the world and also strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure the water is safe, in which they are doing as a part of the W.H.O International Scheme to Evaluate Household Water Treatment Technologies.
Allowing people to feel safe and supported when being diagnosed with mental issues and not allowing them to see it as a roadblock or something that will diminish their accomplishments, but only as a small speed bump in a way.
A lot of funding helping solve issues of poor housing or inadequate facilities, or just damages being sent to countries in need allowing the people to live safe and long lives.
Can be environmental in the sense of their poor environment and climate change leading to these issues in the first place.
Solutions
The UN General Assembly recognised clean water and good sanitation as a human right, meaning everyone should have access to sufficient, continuous, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water both for personal and domestic use.
The Global Fund has been able to fund $20.3 billion into malaria treatments by 2025 and $10.5 billion into tuberculosis alone, with an additional $8.6 going into a combination of both tuberculosis and HIV programs.
The NHS have released apps called Couch to 5K and Active 10, both of which are free and can help encourage and push people into a more active lifestyle, this can help with both the physical and mental well-being of people.
SMC campaigns are being introduced into high risk areas for malaria such as Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, all within the Sahel region, this is a cost-effective and targeted intervention specifically for young children and this campaign can reduce malaria cases by an entire 70%
