        Indigenous people have lost trust in the institutions that have held/maintained their data caused by disrespect, poor management, and exploitation.
        
        Example: Havasupai Tribe
        Tribe members were told that researchers were testing their blood for markers of diabetes. However, instead, they began testing for mental illness and inbreeding. (Duarte)
        I thought that this example is extremely unethical, and goes against the defined research ethics. Indigenous people have a right to know how their data is being used. These types of stories makes me understand why the Indigenous people no longer trust institutions with their data.
      - Western 'take, take, take' mindset has damaged the relationship between institutional stewards and Indigenous people.
        It will be extremely difficult to rebuild trust of institutions

        Data is collected from Indigenous people, with the intent to help others. Westerners use that data for their own agendas, and the Indigenous people are usually the last to see the benefits.

        Indigenous people want their culture to be shared with others, but they want the information to come from the tribe, rather than another source that could potentially skew the information.
