When and Where to Give Individual Feedback
In-Class Student Conferencing
Planned and structured conversations during class.
Focus on work the student does and the process they took to do it.
Out-of-Class Conferencing
Used for significant difficulties or advanced work needing more time.
Used with careful judgment because students may misinterpret it as punishment.
"Quick-and-Quiet" Feedback
Quick and usually addresses one point
Focused on the process as the student completes it.
When and Where to Give Group Feedback
Using a Whole Lesson as a Review or Reteaching
Used if the whole class is confused and the teacher used the class time as feedback
Explain that it’s based on observations of their work and builds trust and motivation.
Giving Feedback During Student Performances
Give in the moment feedback.
Helps students to self reflect.
Beginning a Lesson with Feedback from the Previous One
Start with a purpose to connect to prior learning.
Focus on clarifying misconceptions and explaining correct ideas.
