Brain Development
Myelination
: It connects synaptically interconnected neurons.
Synaptic Pruning:
A remodeling process where the brain removes unused neural connections to make the brain more efficient.
Prefrontal Cortex
: last area of the brain to fully mature (late 20s). It is known as the executive control center for cognitive control and emotional regulation.
Reward System
: Also known as dopamine, is a neurotransmitter linked to pleasure which makes the kid want to do something again to feel happy. :smiley:
Identity Formation
Erikson's stage:
Had 8 major stages in life with identity against confusion. A struggle to form a clear identity about the individual and what they are going to do in the future.
Marcia's Statuses:
A presence or absence of a commitment, goals and values, and a sense of crisis can form 4 identity statuses.
Identity Diffusion: "I don't know what I want to do in the future." :question:
Identity Foreclosure: A boy in 10th grade doesn't consider other career options, " I know for sure I want to be an engineer"
Identity Moratorium: A girl is in high school and isn't sure what diploma to commit to so she explores by taking some classes from each diploma." I'm still not sure what I want to do in the future so I'm going to try different classes to see what I like."
Identity Achievement: A boy doesn't know what he wants to do in the future and he's in college so he is open to the options of the medicine and engineering career paths. Then he decides to go with pathology making a commitment. "I might want to do medicine or engineering. I want to do pathology so I'll stick with the medicine path."
Emerging Adulthood
Emerging Adulthood:
A stage between 18-29 years old which is a new transitional stage of life. This stage is a transition between adolescence and young adulthood.

: A time of instability as there are still struggles with the person's identity. :thinking_face:
Modern Challenge: People are delaying their marriage and parenthood until their late 20s-early 30s
Connections to Me
When a person posts on social media their is a release of dopamine due to likes that they get on that post making them want to post more because it felt good to get likes
During the identity diffusion in Marcia's Statuses a girl watches a show and every new episode she gets a sense of dopamine and she likes the short rewards with the episodes instead of seeking interests. She doesn't know what she wants to do in the future and instead she is just living in the moment. :tv:
