Physical Sciences - Energy and Change (1.1)
Terminology
Newton (N) - The unit of measurement for forces
Friction - The force that acts between two objects rubbing together
Force - A push or pull that happens when two objects interact
Sections of forces
Contact
Requires two objects to touch in order for forces to act on the object (Pushing/pulling a chair)
Non-contact
Forces act on an object at a distance without the objects touching each other (Gravity and magnetic forces)
Forces can act on objects in many different ways
Speed
Speed up or slow down an object
Direction
Change the direction an object moves in
Shape
Compress or stretch an object
Type of forces
Compression
Acts when an object is pushed and squashed
Tension
Acts when an object is pulled or stretched
