Animals and creatures that help us.
Natural Science
Animals that give us food.
Cows give us milk and meat and chicken gives us eggs.
Activity: Learners will observe pictures of animals and the food they give ( Bosman, 2016). Then they will match items( toy milk carton and boiled egg) to the correct animal.
Animals that give us clothes
.
Sheep gives us wool and cows gives us leather.
Activity: Learners will feel samples of wool and fabric and discuss how they turned into clothing to understand animal products in daily life (Bosman, 2016)
Technology
From animal to product.
Milk is processed into butter or cheese and wool is processed into clothing.
Activity: Learners help shake cream in a jar to make butter and compare it to store-bought butter (Naude, 2016).
Tools and machines used.
Machines help to process animal products and technology makes work easier for people.
Activity: Show pictures of machines to the learners ( shearing tools, milk separators) and let learners identify their purposes (Naude, 2016).
Social Science
People who look after animals.
Farmers care for animals and people depend on animals for food.
Activity:Learners act as farmers feeding and milking animals while discussing how farmers help us ( Joubert, 2016).
Responsible use of animals.
People must not harm animals and we must protect animal homes.
Activity: Tell a short story about a kind farmer who takes care of animals and learners share how they can help animals too ( Joubert, 2016).
