Technology
Cow
Design and build a cow feeder: learners will start by designing their cow feeder on a piece of paper. Then use materials such as boxes, plastic bottles, strings, glue/tape, to build the feeder. After completing the feeders, they can evaluate if they are going to work or not.
Cow feeders help farmers keep the cows' food clean and in one place (Agriculture South Africa, 2022). Show learners pictures of a cow feeder and have a discussion about it. Ask open-ended question to encourage inquiry.
Sheep
Sheep shelter: where do sheep live and why do they need a shelter? Sheep live on farms. They stay in fields or grassy areas where they can eat grass. At night or when it rains, they go into a shelter or barn to stay warm and dry (South African Livestock Association, 2023)
Discuss where sheep live and explain why they need shelter. Learners will start by designing the shelter before they build it. Encourage problem solving. let the evaluate their products after building and communicate the results with each, this is where critical thinking is developed.
Natural Science
cow
Types of cows: explain that there are four types of cows name namely dairy cows, beef cows, dual cows and local cows.
Show learners different types of cows, encourage inquiry-based by asking open-ended questions like, "How does a cow help humans?" Show learners different types of cows, let them investigate which cows gives us milk, meat or leather.
Dog
Guard dogs: they are used for protecting people's homes, farms, livestock or people. These types of dogs are loyal to their owners, they are always alert and can bark loudly to warm intruders.
Start the lesson by showing the learners different types of dogs on pictures, video and/ toy models. Ask them questions to understand their prior knowledge "What do you know about these dogs? How do they help people?" Using the materials provided, the learners will investigate what are guard dogs and what they do? Let them share their findings with the rest of the classroom.
Social Science
Horse
Horses that help people: Show the learners pictures of horses working (carrying goods, riding, police horses, therapy horses). A video of horses helping people will be an advantage as the learners will understand how important horses are.
Give learners pictures of horses doing different activities, they must sort into two columns: horses in the past and horses today.
Before cars and trucks, horses were used called to carts, carriages, and wagons, helping people travel and move good. Even today, horses are still used in some rural areas (White-Lewis, 202)
donkey
Donkeys that help people: Show the learners pictures of donkeys working. A video of donkeys helping people carrying goods will be an advantage as the learners will understand how important donkeys are.
Give learners pictures of donkeys doing different activities, they must sort into two columns: donkeys in the past (carrying goods) and horses today (helping farmers, carrying water)
Before cars and trucks, donkeys were used called to carts, carriages, and wagons, helping people travel and move good. Even today, donkeys are still used in some rural areas (White-Lewis, 202)
