Animals and creatures that help us: Animals that give us food and/or clothes.
Natural Science
Subtopic 1: Animals that give us food.
Key concept: Energy and change. Bees, cows, and chicken provide us with food such as honey, milk and eggs.
Activity: Learners will observe samples of food items such as honey, eggs, milk, etc. and say which animals they can come from and record on a class chart like a survey.
Subtopic 2: Animals that give us clothes.
Key concept: Life and living. Animals like sheep and cows provide us with clothing such as wool and leather.
Activity: Learners will explore pieces of different fabric like wool and leather and make comparisons and discuss the animals they come from.
Social Science
Subtopic 1: Farming and community
Key concept: Relationships and interdependence. Farmers take care of animals that provide clothes for the community.
Activity: Learners will watch a video on a farmer and how he takes care of the animals.
Subtopic 2: Traditions and culture
Key concept: Diversity and individuality.
Activity: Learners will go home and research then have turns to share with the class how their families and cultures make use of what animals give us such as clothing, food or slaughtering for special occasions.
Technology
Subtopic 1: Process of animal to product.
Key concept: Processing.
Activity: Learners can mix fresh cream until it turns to butter. This will show an example of the change.
Subtopic 2: Designing and making.
Key concept: Structures.
Activity: Learners will design a blanket out of wool.
