Searching channels
Deviation - User is unaware certain channels even exist, and go on a scrolling spree. This is maladaptive, and probably intentional.
The channels with new messages are highlighted in bold, distracting users from their original intent. It is akin to tempting them to forget their goal.
Channel visibility is not on by default. This means users need to navigate to a separate tab called "Channels & Roles" to edit visibility
If channels' visibility can be toggled, why does the mute function exist?
The channels look identical from server to server. This is an issue - if they differ, then each server could have an easily recognisable tone/environment.
Searching servers, individual chats for a previous message
- Navigate to the Direct Messages tab, denoted by the user's profile icon. This step is intuitive enough. The argument could be made that to search history/servers, the user should return to the root, metaphorically denoted by their profile icon.
- Click on "Find or start a conversation". This step is not intuitive for several reasons.
The profile icon at least fills in, when hovering. The "Find..." button barely changes its hue on hover.
-
The button is arguably, misplaced, misaligned, and incorrectly titled. Additionally, it should use an icon in combination with the text.
Deviation - User gets distracted by new messages. They forget their original intention. This is maladaptive.
Deviation - User is unaware they can search for a specific channel/message, and go on a scrolling spree. This is maladaptive.
Folder Organization
- Navigate to the left column of the screen, where servers have been plopped into folders. This step is intuitive enough.
- Move a server into a folder. This step causes future deviations. It is terribly unintutive.
- Try to find the same server again.

The popup for the folder, is not large enough to list all the folders. It is a feature of no value.
