      - Ethics
        
        Ethical data should be used in ways that align with Indigenous ethical frameworks and rights described in UNDRIP (Research Data Alliance).
        
        First step, prior to data usage, is to assess for ways that the usage of data could possibly harm Indigenous communities (Research Data Alliance). This step ensures that data doesn't inadvertently harm them, but only provides benefits.
        
        Future use and future harms should be taken into consideration to ensure that potential harms are not only mitigated for the present, but the future as well (Research Data Alliance).
      - Authority to Control
        
        Indigenous people have the right to data that are relevant to their community (Research Data Alliance).
        
        Right to develop protocols for Indigenous data and be active leaders in the stewardship of their data (Research Data Alliance).
  - - - Discuss with Indigenous partners to find a balance between what you are receiving for your product and what you are giving in the exchange (Intellectual Property Issues).
      - Share the benefits of the product with the community
