CVD:
Nature- damage or disease of the heart, arteries, veins and blood vessels. Coronary heart disease > poor supply of blood to heart. Stroke > Poor blood supply to brain. Peripheral Disease > Disease of arteries, capillaries etc. affects limbs.
Extent- Mortality is down, incidence is down
Risk Factors - age, gender, hereditary, smoking, diet high is salt or fat, low exercise, obesity, high blood pressure.
Protective Behaviours - Exercise, low fat diet, low alcohol consumption, manage stress, no tobacco smoke.
Sociocultural - Family history of CVD, Asians have low fat diet, ATSI more at risk > lower SEA, media exposure of effects of smoking lead to reduced rates.
Socioeconomic - Low SES have limited choice of diet, physical activity, medical treatment, lower education = less knowledge around health, how to access services, or available services.
Environmental - Rural and remote are more at risk, less access to services and technology.
