Learning Theories
Operant Conditioning
-
Core Idea:
Learning that occurs based on the consequences of behavior; how animals changed their behavior through reinforcement and punishment
Key Processes, Principles, or Characteristics

Observational Learning
-
-
Key Processes, Principles, or Characteristics
Key Processes: attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation
Type of Behaviour
-
Applications: Skills training, media effects, cultural transmission
Classical Conditioning
-
Core Idea:
Leearning occurs when a neutral stimulus becomes linked with a stimulus that naturally produces behaviour
Key Processes, Principles, or Characteristics
- Before Conditioning:Unconditioned Stimulus (US) leads to an Unconditioned Response (UR) but a Neutral Stimulus will result in no conditioned response
For example: Food (US) in front of a the dog who salivates (UR). Whistle (NR) which has no salivating (no CR)
- During Conditioning: Adding your conditioned stimulus (CS) with the US which will result in a UR
- After Conditioning: CS will result in a conditioned response (CR)
