Most common cause of lower limb amputations is peripheral vascular disease, mostly caused by diabetes. Second most common is trauma.
Toe or foot amputations in the sub-acute setting are the most common. Followed by transtibial (below knee amputation) and then transfemoral (above knee amputation).
There are other types of lower limb amputation like Syme (through ankle), through knee, hip disarticulation and hemipelvectomy.
