Wudu & Prayer
Jibreel AS taught the Prophet SAW how to make wudu and pray by modeling it
The Prophet SAW taught Khadijah RA how to pray
Qiyamul Layl

Prepares the believers for sacrifice and persecution
Strengthens believers' spirituality
Halaqas would be in the house of Arqam ibn Abi Arqam
By Saffa and Marwa, crowded.
Arqam's Islam was not well-known and he was not a major figure.
Al Mubarak Furi: Because Arqam was not an elder (16-17 years old) or noble chief, he could go unnoticed.
Average age of companions who accepted Islam was 19 or 21.
The Prophet was clearly a strategic thinker SAW who valued his peoples' safety.
He did not underestimate Arqam RA for his position, nor his own responsibilities.
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid
First to believe in and validate the Prophet SAW.
His relief and support
Salam from the Heavens
Jibreel AS came to the Prophet SAW days before Khadijah's death with salams from Allah and himself and the glad tidings of a palace in Jannah made of hollow pearls, free of clamor and fatigue.
Aisha RA's feelings about Khadijah
I never felt ghira for any woman as I did for Khadija, even though I never properly met her, because of how much the Prophet SAW would mention her.
Aisha RA: "Hasnt Allah replaced her with someone better?"
Prophet SAW: "No, I was gifted with her love."
The Prophet would make istighfar for her and send gifts to her friends.
The Prophet was not married to anybody else when Khadijah RA was alive.
Ali ibn Abi Talib
The Prophet SAW and Abbas took took in the children of Abu Talib, who had fallen into hard times
Ali RA was blessed to be moved to the home of the Prophet SAW at the age of 10 or 12.
He was the next to believe after Khadijah RA
The Prophet's most famous uncles were Abu Talib, Abbas, Hamza, Abu Lahab.
"Hamza" and "Abbas" were neutral names. Both accepted Islam.
Abu Talib (Abdul Manaf) and Abu Lahab (Abdul 'Uzza) did not accept Islam.
Zayd ibn Harithah
Kidnapped as a child and sold to the relative of Khadijah RA, who gifted him to the Prophet SAW while they were married.
Ibn' Sa'ad: Some people of Zayd's tribe of Banu Kalb spotted him in Mecca and informed his family.
Zayd's father and uncle took the journey to retrive him, prepared to pay ransom.
They told the Prophet that he was a man of nobility and good lineage. They asked for a reasonable price and to not exploit the situation.
The Prophet suggested asking Zayd himself.
Zayd recognized his father and uncle.
He says, "I can never choose anyone over you because you are to me my father and uncle combined."
The Prophet's treatment of Zayd, even as a slave, shows his beautiful character.
The Prophet sincerely loved Zayd and his child, Usama ibn Zayd. He SAW cried sorrowfully at his death.
Slavery in Islam
Outlawed
Choosing to be a slave, giving up freedom.
Selling children to slavery
Kidnap
Allowed: Prisoners of war
Could not return them to the enemy
Integrated in Islamic society and cared for. Dressed and fed the same.
Islam always encourages to free slaves.
Can move up in society. In 100, the greatest scholars in many Arab lands were ex-slaves.
Not dehumanized or bred against their will.
The Prophet put them at ease by adopting Zayd. Not only freed him but made him family.
Abdullah ibn Umar: Zayd was known as as "Zayd ibn Muhammad" until the Quran forbade the lineage being changed.
Slavery throughout history was considered as the rights one person has over another. Not as brutal as in America.
Importance of Salah
Improving Khushoo'
Find a quiet and dedicated space
Hadith: Worship Allah as if you're looking at Him. "Iyyaka Na'budu."
Recite new surahs/revision.
Throw away distractions with your hands as you say "Allahu Akbar."
Focus on the meaning of what you're saying and the adhan.
Remember Who is above all else. Be consistent.
Approach salah with a profile: Regret, gratefulness, or neediness.
Pray knowing it could be the last time.
"Indeed between a person and kufr and shirk is abandoning the prayer." Sahih Muslim
Imam Ahmad said, "Anyone who intentionally skips their prayer without an excuse need to redo their shahadah."
Omar RA said, "Indeed their is no share in Islam for anyone who abandons their prayer."
Prayer is spiritual cleansing, a gift.
Prayer is the love language of Allah that must be respected.
The most beloved deed to Allah subhanHu wa Ta'aala is Salah at its appointed time.
