The role of animals in the community (past and present)
Animals have always played an important role in our communities, both in the past and today. Long ago, people used animals like donkeys, oxen, and horses to help with farming, carry water, and transport goods. Cows, goats, and chickens provided food such as milk, meat, and eggs, which families shared or sold. Today, animals still help us by giving food, clothes, and even jobs to people who care for them. They also bring people together through farming, markets, and cultural celebrations. In this way, animals continue to support and strengthen our communities (International Livestock Research Institute, 2013).
