In Britain's streets, farms, and workplaces, working animals were a common sight and our primary source of power. Their "horsepower" propelled them in mining, transportation, agriculture, and even combat. They were essential to our social and economic advancement. Plough horses and oxen, pit ponies, carriage and tram horses, dray horses, and war horses were among the common foal animals. People and necessities like coal, water, milk, and food (bread, meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables) were transported by animals. They carried a wide range of other commodities, including salt, tar, limestone, sugar, flour, and soap.
