Enterprise & Business Architecture
Enterprise Architecture (EA) - The “Big Picture”
Scope: Enterprise-wide: Includes all domains (Business, Data, Applications, and Technology).
Key Questions:
“How do we align IT with business objectives?”
“What is the future state of our infrastructure and systems?”
“How do we optimize the enterprise as a whole (processes, systems, and technology)?”
Key Artifacts:
Transformation Roadmap.
Models of the 4 Domains (Business, Data, Application, Technology).
Architecture Principles.
Definition: This is a framework for aligning business processes, information systems, and technological infrastructure with the company's overall strategy.

Implementation of a New Customer Loyalty Program
“Implementing a New Customer Loyalty Program”
Contribution of Business Architecture (BA):
.
Defines the necessary capabilities (e.g., “Points Management,” “Customer Segmentation,” “Offer Personalization”).
Models the affected value streams (e.g., “Preferred Customer Registration Process”).
Identifies the business actors and roles.
Contribution of Enterprise Architecture (EA):
.
Designs the Application Architecture (e.g., determines whether to purchase or develop a CRM/Loyalty system and how it integrates with the ERP).
Defines the Data Architecture (e.g., how points data will be stored and how it will flow between systems).
Establishes the Roadmap and standards for technical implementation.
Business Architecture (BA) - The “Business Plan”
Definition: Defines the structure and functioning of the company, regardless of technology, to execute the strategy. This is an EA domain.
Scope: Focuses on the Business Domain (Capabilities, Value, Organization, Processes).
Primary Focus: Translate high-level strategy into a coherent and measurable operational design.
Key Questions:
“How do we deliver value to our customers (value streams)?”
“What key processes need to be optimized?”
“What business capabilities do we need to achieve the strategy?”
Key Artifacts:
Value Stream Maps.
Organization Models and Business Processes.
Capability Map.
How They Complement Each Other (Synergy)
BA is the Foundation of BI: BA defines the ‘What’ and ‘Why’ (business needs and structure).
BI cannot begin without a solid BA.
BA defines the ‘What’ and ‘Why’ (business needs and structure).
From Strategy to Implementation:
AN: Translates Strategy → into Business Design.
EI: Translates Business Design → into Technical Blueprint.
The Crucial Bridge:
AN acts as the link between business objectives and technology solution requirements.
Collaboration (Securing Investments):
Both ensure that money is invested in business capabilities (AN) that can be implemented consistently and efficiently (AE).
