Subtopic 1 : Living and Non Living
Key Concept ; Humans depend on living things like animals and creatures for food and clothes
Learners discuss what would happen if animals did not exist , or if they were to disappear ,what would we eat . It promotes critical thinking in learners and they are able to communicate their own ideas. The teacher shows the learner pictures of everything we get from animals from food ,clothing and other things like honey
Subtopic 2 :Habitats and environment
Key Concepts ; Humans can protect or harm animal environment
The teacher will show learners visual aids explaining a good environment and a harmful environment. Learners will explain and point out how is the environment harmful and ways we can protect our environment to make it okay for our animals to survive
Social Science
Sub topic 1: Food and Farming
The teacher will display pictures of different food we get from farming .Learners will be able to explain the importance of farming because it provides food for humans. The learners will discuss if they have or have seen any animals in the community or at home and how they benefit from them .
Sub topic 2: Transport on land
People use animals as transport or to transport goods. Learners learn and observe the different types of animals that is used as transport. The teacher will show the learners a video of how transport have evolved through out the years and that some people still use animals today as mode of transport
Technology
Subtopic 1 Structures for animal shelters
Key Concepts : The different shelters animals use or build for themselves eg birds nest
Learners can make and design troughs that help with feeding the chickens out of recycled materials. Using the technology processing skills investigate , design , make evaluate and communicate learners will make with feeding chickens troughs. Learners are hands on with creating a solution to a problem (DBE,2011)
Subtopic 2 ; Processing
Key Concept ; How humans processes products such as eggs , wool and milk from animals
Learners observe how we get our chickens from eggs , the whole process of keeping and looking after chickens , collecting eggs once they have laid them . Packing and selling them to humans.
Learners learn by observing and discussing the process.((DBE, 2011)
