No safe routes but if control them you control who trades with you and add tax (which Mali was able to do)

Transported to European colonies in America
12 million west Africans
Why they got enslaved
work on plantations or as servants
Europeans didn't want to work in harsh conditions for little pay (so the Africans) were enslaved to do it
Triangular system:
EUROPE > AFRICA > AMERICA > EUROPE
EUROPE: Ships leave Europe with manufactured goods
AFRICA: Traded goods for slaves in West Africa
MIDDLE PASSAGE: West Africa to American plantations
AMERICA: Plantation crops sold back to Europe: create manufactured goods
