Health disparities and health equity
Questions
Why is there limited education about the historical trauma that had happened to native Americans within the education system? The social injustices that happened to this culture has been profound and yet before reading this article the only instances I have heard about the violence towards this culture was the trail of tears.
Why is it that equality is always the word that is preached to create everything equal for eveyrone instead of equity no one is ever equal due to the unique difference people have would it not be more pluasible to implement equity practices?
If there is vulnerability to certain disease within culture that are present within different cultures, why is it not mandated for everyone to be vaccinated for the diseases that are causing these vulnerability difference within other cultures that have never been exposed?
Interesting idea
Because political economic system included the way that resources and social benefits are distributed in society. Since there is the knowledge that the political economic system effects the resources in society it should emphasized that political policy to help the society it is present within and create an environment where everyone can thrive through the implementation of these policies.
since there is a known prevalence of inequity community conditions in places such as St. Louis where there are food deserts present. Due to knowledge of this happening, there should be a call to action for the city of St. Louis to eliminate these practices from happening and require these corporations that build and do not use these belongings to be fined unless the use the building for the functions it is intended for.
With the knowledge of knowing that historical trauma can leave long lasting effects on the cultural groups that these events had occurred against. Therefore, there needs to be additional assistance programs for Native Americans that can properly assist this culture and though it could not correct what had happened it can assist with healing the trauma that has occurred and then let the culture begin to prosper again.

Historical trauma is not the same as regular trauma due to it being a collective phenomenon, something that happens to a community or a people and it does not refer to any king of trauma but the trauma is perpetrated by outsiders with purposeful and often destrcutive intent.

Learning outlook
That their inequities present in community conditions which can be very detrimental to the community which can lead to a high concentration of environmental health risks such as polluting industries, lack of safe spaces, and pay for same good and services as more advantaged communities. These are very predatory behaviors that occur within communities that inequity is present further creating health disparities and inequities in the community.
The culture related gender roles can often impact vulnerability to disease such as smoking and tobacco use where there are health consequences that are disproportionally effect males in parts of the world, Such as in China where the 61% of men smoke compared to 4.2% if women. I never realized how much gender could play a role on health habits and how much effect it had on lifestyle choices.
I had never fully understanded the differentiation of equality and equity when it came to what made them so different. Through lecture it explained how they are different and that equity can be a more efficient tool to use to help accommodate people for their different needs unlike equality where everyone gets the same things even when the need more resources.
Even if the historical trauma that occurred to a culture had no differently affected the current generations alive the emotional burden and feelings of animosity are still present.
How vulnerability disease interacts between a cultural group and the physical environment. That living patterns of a particular culture can cause that culture to adapt well to a disease environment, not to adapt well, or even to exacerbate a disease or other health threat. I think that this concept was interesting to learn about how the exposure to certain cultural groups can cause immunity that is not present with other cultures showing that culture truly does relate to health.
Due to the long historical experience of colonization, appropriation, cultural suppression, violence and marginalization, native Americans experience poverty rates more than three times that of the Caucasian population of the United States.
Connections
Health disparities and health inequities are both factors that need to be addressed when trying to achieve health equity. These are essential factors that can account for most factors that need to be addressed when trying to accommodate everyone's' health needs.
Though historical trauma may not be actively occurring the effects can be seen in the future generations with the loss of cultural practices within the group and which can lead to effects of not having a sense of belonging to a particular group due to the difference between the present generation the elders. The coping mechanisms that can be seen from this issue could be alcohol abuse which is very prevalent in the native American culture and thus creating greater disparities for this cultural group.
Another example of historical trauma that can be applicable to African Americans is the effects of weathering on African American women where there are physiologically older than their age. This has been created by systemic racism and discrimination that many have experienced throughout their lifetimes. The stress of cultural suppression could be a possibility of this phenomena occurring as well.
The political economy of the country can directly affect how susceptible a culture is to disease through the policies that are created. For example, the United States mandates several vaccines to eliminate disease such as measle and polio that can have lasting effects on quality of life. Through these actions enacted through policies in the United States it has benefited the overall health of the country.
Historical trauma can be seen in groups that have been subjected to suppression due to them being different for instance segregation being part of history. Even though this is not present anymore the lasting effects are still seen and the ideology behind these actions are still transcending through generations. The effects of segregation have contributed to different ethnicity still having the same feelings as previous generations like native Americans have felt.
Not only does historical trauma affect the culture itself but it can lead to poverty being more prevalent within these groups and social pathologies along with negative health/mental health outcomes which can further create a breakdown within these groups.
By bettering understanding social determinant of health this can allow for better policies to be created that accounts for all aspects that affect health outcomes and not a singular point. All social determinant of health need to be addressed to be able to see change if one is corrected and another is not this can create more issues due to lack of acknowledgment of the factor that contributes to health.
By understanding the health inequities that occurring within certain communities it can bring awareness of the issue such as food deserts where individuals are unable to get the proper food to optimize their health Such as the food market that was created in St. Louis where it appears to be a grovery store but it is not and is never open thus contributing to the food desert that is present in the area.
Vulnerability to diseases is different for every culture and most interactions with any aspect of life can contribute whether you are more or less vulnerable to disease than another culture.
How the gender roles within a culture can led to vulnerability to a disease. This can be seen in the United States when it comes to women being treated in healthcare system. There are the issues of women just being dramatic and that there is no issue present since symptoms do not match the same as a man. In fact, women are misdiagnosis 50% of the time for heart attack when compared to men.
When the text references how culture and the physical environment interact when it comes to disease it was a reminder of what had happened when people began to colonize America. Though the colonies were immune to diseases that were common to Europe the native Americans were not thus showing how one culture could be completely unaffected by a disease and another could almost be wiped out due to the exposure of this sickness.
By empathizing equity there could be better health outcomes in all communities due to the personalized accommodation created to help everyone involved get the help that they are needing. Equality cannot be applicable to healthcare due to how everyone's needs are not the same by implementing equity it can allow for growth in the correct direction of reducing health disparities.
