Structural Parts of a Cruise Ship
BOW: The front-most part of the ship. (prua)
Stern: The very rear of the ship. (Poppa)
PORT: The left side of the ship when facing the bow. (Babordo)
HULL: The main body of the ship. (scafo)
STATEROOMS(or Cabins): The private rooms for guests, similar to hotel rooms.
MUSTER STATIONS: Designated areas for passenger safety drills and potential evacuations. (Punto di adunata)
PURPER'S OFFICE: The front desk or information center for guests. (Ufficio del commissario di bordo)
types of cuises
TRADITIONAL CRUISE: starts and ends at a port near home
ROUND THE WORLD CRUISES: several months cruising all over the world
MINI-CRUISE: two o three days
REPOSITIONING CRUISE: on a ship when it relocates at the end of the season
FLY-CRUISE: you fly to and/or from the port
RIVER CRUISE: are long and convenient repositioning cuises
TRANS-ATLANTIC CRUISES: sailing near the coast during the day and docking at night

often refers to the pool desk area

a gambling area open when the ship is at sea

stores selling souvenirs and other goods

CAPITAN
the highest-ranking officer, responsible for safery, navigation and the ship's overall operation
DESK DEPARTMENT
manages navigation and desk operation
ENGINE DEPARTMENT (reparto motori)
oversees the ship's machanical and technical system
HOTEL DEPARTENT
handles guest services, including food and beverage, entertainment, and accomodations
