No Nucleus
Cytoplasm bound by the plasma membrane
Basic features of cell
Semifluid substance called cytosol
Chromosomes (carry genes)
Plasma membrane

Secondary cell wall
Primary cell wall
Nucleus
Nuclear envelope is a double membrane
Nuclear envelope encloses the nucleus separating it from the cytoplasm
Nucleus contains most of cell genes
Smooth ER
Stores calcium ions
Detoxiflies drugs and poisons
Synthesizes Lipids
Golgi apparatus
Modifies products of the ER
Sorts and packages materials into transport vesicles
Manufactures certain molecules
parameters microscopy
Contrast
Resolutions
Magnification
Rough ER
Membrane factory for the cell
Transport vesicles
Has bound ribosomes, which secrete glycopeotiens
Vacuoles
Variety of functions in different kinds of cell
Large vesicles derived from the ER
Ribosomes
Ribosomes build proteins in two locations:
nuclear envelope (bound ribosomes)
Ribosomes are complexes made of ribosomal
RNA and protein
Mitochondria
Known as the Power house of the cell
Chloroplasts
Found in plants
Similarities between mitochondria and chloroplasts
that support this theory
Enveloped by a double membrane
– Contain free ribosomes and circular DNA molecules
– Grow and reproduce somewhat independently
in cells
Mitochandria
Mitochondria: Chemical Energy Conversion
Mitochondria are found in nearly all eukaryotic cells
They have a smooth outer membrane and an inner
membrane folded into cristae
The inner membrane creates two compartments:
intermembrane space and mitochondrial matrix
Some metabolic steps of cellular respiration are
catalyzed in the mitochondrial matrix
Cristae present a large surface area for enzymes
that synthesize ATP
