Types of Surgery
Explorative: confirm disease type/extent (e.g., laparotomy).
Reconstructive: repair deformity or appearance (e.g., rhinoplasty).
Curative: remove or repair diseased organ (e.g., appendectomy).

Palliative: relieve symptoms but not cure (e.g., feeding tube).
Surgical Urgency
Emergent: life-threatening, immediate (e.g., stop severe bleeding).
Urgent: within 24–48 hrs (e.g., fracture repair).
Required: needed but not urgent (e.g., gallbladder removal).
Elective: patient’s choice, not required for survival (e.g., cosmetic).
