Animals and Creatures that help us.
NATURAL SCIENCE
Learners learn how to appreciate animals as living creatures that help humans.
Learners know that farm animals (cows, chicken, sheep) provide humans with food and useful materials like milk, eggs, wool and meat. They also understand that animals need food, water and care to stay healthy.
Learners identify and classify animals by their uses. They also observe similarities and differences between farm animals.
Activity
“Farm Helper Poster” – Learners draw a farm scene showing animals and label what each animal gives us (e.g., “Cow → Milk”).
1)
Farm animals
Learners know that insects like bees, butterflies, and worms play important roles in nature (pollination, soil health).
They understand that these insects help plants grow and support food production.
Learners observe insects in the environment
Learners respect and care for small living things, and they become curious about nature.
Activity
“Helping Insects Garden Watch” – Learners observe bees or worms in the school garden, then create a “Helping Insects” poster showing what they learned.
(Encourages curiosity and environmental awareness.)
2) Insects that help us.
SOCIAL SCIENCE
1) People who work with animals.
People like farmers, vets, and police officers work with animals to help others.
Learners learn about community helpers who work with animals, such as farmers, veterinarians, and police dog trainers.
They understand how these people help both animals and humans.
Learners learn to respect people who help animals
Activity
“Meet a Helper” – Invite a vet or farmer to class (or watch a video). Learners ask questions and write or draw one thing they learned about caring for animals.
(Builds communication and empathy.)
Activity
2) Caring for animals
Learners understand that animals have needs: food, water, shelter, love, and safety.
They know why humans must protect pets and wild animals.
We must care for and protect animals so they stay safe and healthy
Pet Care Chart” – Learners create a class chart showing how to feed, clean, and protect pets. They discuss why each care step is important.
(Develops empathy and responsibility.)
TECHNOLOGY
1) Animal inspired tools
.
Some machines are made by copying animals (like birds and fish).
Learners know that some tools and machines are inspired by animals (e.g., bird wings inspire airplane wings, fish shapes inspire submarines).
They understand how nature can help humans solve design problems
Activity
Learners observe shapes and movements in animals.
Learners compare how tools and animals move or function.
Learners are Curious about how things work.
Learners appreciate nature as a source of ideas.
“Design Your Animal Robot” – Learners watch a short clip about machines that copy animals (biomimicry). Then they draw their own invention inspired by an animal.
(Promotes imagination and creative thinking.)
2) Machines that help us care for animals.
Machines like milkers and water pumps help us look after animals.
Learners know that machines (like milking machines, feeders, and pumps) help humans take care of animals more efficiently.
They understand that technology makes animal care safer and faster.
Activity
Learners identify different tools used in animal care.
Learners match tools to their functions.
Learners explain in simple terms how a machine helps.
“Match the Machine” – Learners match pictures of machines (milking machine, brush, feeder) with the animals they help. Discuss how each tool makes the job easier.
(Encourages observation and logical reasoning.)
