students with special needs in the Colombian education system
Stigmas and beliefs about students with special educational needs
Students with special needs should not be integrated into conventional classrooms.
Many teachers consider teaching students with special educational needs to be a waste of time.
Sometimes parents do not get involved in their children's learning because they believe their children do not have the necessary skills to learn.
Among the responsibilities of educational institutions regarding students with special educational needs are:
Adapting infrastructure to different needs, such as ramps and signage for students with special sensory needs, as well as adapting classroom materials, such as Braille for students who are visually impaired.
Keep teachers constantly trained and engaged in learning processes on the strategies necessary for inclusive education. In addition, adapt the curriculum and planning so that all students can be included, regardless of their abilities.
