Family is a reflection of patriarchy in society- Men are in control in society and this is reflected in the family.

Gender roles socialisation- Boys are taught to be strong and in-charge. Girls are taught to be caring and passive. This prepares them to conform to their future role in the family.

Marxist feminism

During the war, women were called up on to be the breadwinner but tend to get paid less.

Men come home from work and release their frustration on women. The man can then go back to work the next day and be productive.
Soft solution- Closing the pay gap and being paid for invisible work.
Hard solution- Revolution to overthrow capitalist systems.
