positive deviance:
- over-adherance to the norms and expectations of society
- E.g over-training, playing when injured (Paula Radclifee 2004 Athens Olympics) or accidentally injuring another player as they are striving to win

negative deviance:
- under-conformity to the norms and expectations of society
- 'win at all costs' encourgaes performes who lack moral restraint to act against the norms
- e.g taking PEDs,delibrately harming another player, match-fixing, diving to win a penalty/free kick
