        Lexical differentiation > children use the word learning strategy of mutual exclusivity (each item in the world has one exclusive label) WITHIN a label NOT ACROSS languages
        
        Word order > language mixing examples show that children follow the word order appropriate to each language
        
        Code switching > children are likely to know which language to speak with a particular parent or grandparent.
