CLASSROOM EXAMPLE
Making sure students have access to restroom breaks & a safe environment.
Recognize students various students different achievements
In a grade 4 English lesson this could result in encouraging friendly group activities among the students while also providing breaks to meet physiological & safety needs.
STRENGHTHS
Atkinson : accounts for individual differences
Maslow : covers basic to complex human needs.
Expectancy value: links motivation to task expectations.
WEAKNESS
Atkinson: complexity; hard to apply in classrooms.
Maslow: Lacks strong scientific evidence.
Expectancy value: Difficult to measure subjective values.
CONNECTION TO MY OWN EXPERIENCE
Observed the students who arrived hungry or anxious struggle until those needs were met thanks to the 'NAASTHAA PROGRAM' in schools which confirmed the importance of meeting the basic needs for learning readiness.
MY QUESTION FOR THE CLASS
How could teachers address students ' lower-level needs while promoting higher-level thinking and creativity in the classroom?
