Color Vision Theories
Trichromatic Theory – three cone types sensitive to different wavelengths, all colors in spectrum = red, green, and blue
Opponent-Process Theory – color coded in opponent pairs (cells of visual system → excited by one opponent color & inhibited by other) black-white, yellow-blue, green-red
Negative Afterimages – supports opponent process: continuation of visual sensation after stimulus removal, ex: the light experienced after looking away from the sun and onto a white surface
Depth Perception & Cues
Binocular Cues (depth of 3D world) – disparity, convergence (rely on both eyes), ex: binocular disparity - the diff. view of the world between each eye
Monocular Cues (2D arrays) – ex: linear perspective (perceive depth when two parallel lines converge in an image), interposition, relative size, etc., clues that require one eye
