-
DNA: repeating nucleotides. A sugar (deoxyribose), phosphate, nitrogenous base.

-
DNA Replication
-
start codon: origin of replication. prok have one, euk have many
Helicase: separate DNA strands. Primase: add RNA primer to signal start pt. DNA polymerase: synthesize new DNA strand using OG as template. DNA Ligase: seals gaps betw. Okazaki fragments on lagging strand

Mutations

can be silent, harmful, and beneficial
-
DNA to RNA transcription
- initiation: RNA polymerase binds to DNA promoter.
- Elongation: RNA polymerase synthesizes mRNA from 5'-3' adding complimentary nucleotides
- Termination: transcription stops when RNA polymerase reaches terminator sequence.
Operon Model
promoter, operator, structural gene
Repression: type of regulation that inhibits gene expression. after overabundance of end product. mediated by repressor proteins that block transcription
Inducible Operon: default state is for regulatory gene to produce active repressor protein that binds to operator, preventing transcription
